Project Excellence reaches new heights!

Sydney’s iconic Centrepoint Tower, Scentre Group’s flagship Sydney site, recently provided the backdrop for one of DESA’s most exciting and complex projects.

Westfield’s Converged Services Network (CSN) realizes the vision of running all building and communications services over a single converged cabling infrastructure.   The new network reaches all the way to the top of the Centrepoint Tower, with optical fibre and copper structured cabling systems spanning the entire complex including the shopping precincts, restaurant areas, office floors and tower.

After installing the infrastructure DESA undertook one of the most complex live service migrations the Company has ever attempted.  In staged cutovers conducted at night and coordinated with many other technology providers, DESA successfully moved hundreds of live devices from legacy networks to the new network while keeping the shopping centre fully operational.  This included 350 CCTV cameras, 59 access control points, 57 electrical meters, 39 BMS system connections, 100 intercom points, 42 people counters, 84 digital signs/directories, 150 wireless access points, as well as systems for lift management, PA management, radio management, and electronically controlled lockers.

Congratulations to Rob McFadden, his project management team and onsite staff and Rocky Sama, Queensland General Manager / Scentre Group National Account Leader, for their achievement in bringing this amazing project to fruition – an achievement recognised by the industry in taking out first place at the NECA NSW Excellence Awards in the Voice / Data category for 2016.
