Land-mark development for North Sydney

It’s a rare opportunity to be involved in the creation of a land-mark development but this is exactly what DESA has achieved with the $52 million Woolworths redevelopment at Crows Nest, NSW.

Construction work on the joint redevelopment of Woolworths and the Alexander Street carpark on the corner of Alexander and Burlington Streets in Crows Nest began in early May 2014 and the new Woolworths 3,800 sq m superstore was officially opened for trade on 28 April 2016.
4203This $52 million retail development has doubled the size of the supermarket, increased parking spaces and provided five new specialty retail stores. As a Woolworths-certified supplier, DESA took responsibility for the electrical, communications, security and lighting installation for the superstore, working with Woolworth’s project managers for the development, Fabcot Pty Ltd, and the builder, Stevens Constructions, to create a state of the art supermarket.

Project Group Manager Tom Price, who put together a team specifically for the Crows Nest project, oversaw DESA’s involvement in the redevelopment.

“A specialist team was created for this project with years of combined experience in retail construction contexts, and specialist knowledge of Woolworth’s electrical and communications infrastructure needs. They have a great sense of achievement and pride in the project and the way they came together to deliver for the client” said Tom.20160512 -LoRes-129A0680

“The client was a great leader throughout the entire project and was great to be involved with – special thanks go to Trevor Lee, Senior Project Manager at Woolworths Corporate Property.”
The site sits at two major intersections and its innovative and iconic architecture provides a gateway to Crows Nest.

“It’s a great building, a really nice looking building. I’m a local and I like to drive past it. I even brought the kids along to the opening. I’m really proud of it and I know that Drew, Evan, Brook and all of our onsite team are really proud of it too!” said Tom.
As a flow-on from the Woolworth’s Crows Nest redevelopment, the DESA team has recently secured another new shopping centre project at the Cranebrook Shopping Village.
