A recent exciting and high tech project for DESA has been the installation of the Legoland Discovery Centre at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Victoria. Working with Hutchinson Builders and partnered with a number of key suppliers, DESA provided a high tech design solution to the fun packed theme-park styled LEGO world. And all whilst meeting the challenges of working within the constraints of one of Victoria’s largest and busiest shopping centre complexes!
The innovative technical solutions included combining switchboards and eliminating a sub-board by re-distributing power circuits to meet both space and budget constraints; 600 metres of unistrut designed and installed to support over 600 metres of lighting track; LED lighting, lighting control and motion detection; ride control panels that were modified to meet Australian theme park standards; audio visual displays; customer flow and emergency systems – all meeting the highest energy efficient requirements.
Visual impact is an integral part of the Legoland experience and each of the five individual areas has its own unique lighting control, power and AV requirements.Interactive ‘Miniland’ comes alive when the lights are turned off allowing the model city to captivate with its detailed night scene which even includes an audio visual firework display! The Factory Tour entrance incorporates a coloured queuing system guiding customers to coloured LED lit consoles providing great visual impact and flow.
Product selection underwent a rigorous sign-off process and through clear communication lines between the builder, consultants and client, DESA was able to deliver a successful procurement strategy and product tracking process to monitor delivery and quality of materials. All imported product was assessed and in some cases rewired to ensure it met Australian Standards.
Health and safety was an integral part of the project and thanks are due to Hutchinson Builders who were also committed to providing a safe worksite. There were no LTI’s or MTIs on the project.
This project has been entered into the 2017 NECA Excellence Awards under Category 6 – Commercial Project under 1 million dollars.
