DESA Australia has once again earned industry recognition for one of the most important projects in the Melbourne sporting landscape.
DESA was contracted in 2015 to help ‘future-proof’ the Melbourne Cricket Ground, partnering with IBM, CISCO and builders Cockram to develop the Melbourne Cricket Ground into one of the most technically advanced stadiums in the world.
The success of the project was acknowledged at the recent 2016 BICSI Conference and Awards night, where DESA was announced the winner of the ICT “Infrastructure Installation of the year” for the MCG Smart Stadium.
“The vision of the MCC was to future-proof the “G”, where a full capacity crowd of 100,000 would be able to access live replays, live stats and the best quality internet access on a smart phone or tablet,” said DESA Director of Operations Robert Baird.“Our stadium team contributed to the initial design and put in a massive amount of work in completing the project on time and to a very high standard. At times, adjustments were made to the program with the consult and input of the MCC, DESA and IBM to provide a more technically advanced solution”.
The $45 million upgrade saw the installation of a copper and fibre optic infrastructure and 900 wireless access points, creating the highest density private WiFi network in the world.
DESA is very proud to have been involved in this project at one of the most recognisable sporting stadiums in the world and is certain that the MCG ‘Smart Stadium’ will deliver a better match day experience to sports fans for many years to come.
